Play Psychotherapist

Sheona is a BAPT accredited Play Therapist who achieved her Masters in Play Therapy (with Distinction) from the University of Roehampton. Sheona has a BA in Arts and Social Sciences (Psychology and Sociology), and subsequently worked for many years with children and young people in different settings. The children Sheona has worked with have had varying social, emotional, and behavioural issues. Many of whom had been affected by varying degrees of trauma or mental health issues. Realising the importance of positive relationships and early support for these young people, Sheona first got a certificate in counselling. Sheona realised that some young children (and teenagers) can find it difficult to express themselves verbally. Recognising the impact trauma, attachment, social and/or mental health issues can have on young people, combined with the therapeutic power of play, led her to embark on her two-year Masters in Play Therapy. Play Therapy can be effective for a wide range of issues, but Sheona truly keeps the individual child at the centre of the work and works in a humanistic, child-led way. Sheona is passionate about the benefits arts and play therapy can have and looks forward to providing this service in the Highlands.
